Also known as "Teeter Quarry" after its original owner.Because of the high-quality, skid-resistant paving aggregate produced at Valley Quarries, Inc.'s Gettysburg Quarry, it was only natural that a hot-mix paving material (blacktop) plant would eventually be sited here as well.

The material mined is an argillite or hornfels and diabase (commonly referred to as “Trap Rock”), and is over 90 million years old. The extremely tough and insoluble rock processed here at Gettysburg is sought after not only within Pennsylvania, but also in the neighboring state of Maryland for paving projects requiring a more resistant wearing aggregate.

The current Blacktop facility at Gettysburg is the newest of the Valley Quarries, Inc. blacktop plants, and is an Astec 400 Turbo, continuous mix "double barrel" type, drum plant. 640 tons of heated product storage in 4 silos gives plant operators the flexibility to supply multiple jobs with different mixes concurrently. The plant and quarry are adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park, just west of the excellent US Route 15 corridor between Harrisburg, PA and Frederick, MD.
