Villa del Rosario is a very historical small village just south of Cucuta in the Norte de Santander (Northern Santander) province. This
was the home of Francisco de Paula Santander, the man of laws, who drafted the first Constitution for GranColombia, held in the
GranColombia's first congress (of Cucuta) in the Villa del Rosario. In the fight for independence from Spain, Santander was to the
countries in GranColombia (Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador and parts of Costa Rica, Peru, Brazil and Guyana) as Thomas
Jefferson was to the USA. Santander's villa in the Villa del Rosario is still preserved as a historical site in a palm lined park just across
from the best rotisserie roasted chicken you will ever taste in the Restaurante Los Ochoas - the secret are the spices only found in
that locale. The town is much cooler than nearby Cucuta, so sit back and enjoy an afternoon there, accompanied by warm and
friendly hosts playing rancheras music on Spanish guitars. ER
