One of 15 camps established in 1943 to train troops for desert warfare in Africa. The Desert Training Center, with camps located in California, Arizona, and Nevada, trained a combined total of 1 million troops between 1943 and 1944. Units stationed here were the 77th, 81st, and 104th Infantry Divisions. Agriculture has blotted out most of what remains of this camp, which is mainly rock-lined paths. Today, a pyramidal monument marks the site. The monument is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

  • My wife and I are on a great adventure tomorrow. We leave Sacramento CA for our 9 hour trip to Rachel, NV. Of course on the way we are stopping at a few "more than meets the eye", U.S. Government facilities. So, here we come: Hawthorne Army Depot, Tonopah Test Range and, finally, AREA 51!! (No reports from inside area 51, hopefully).
