Hamat Airport, also known as Pierre Gemayel International Airport, was built in the middle of the 1970's.

This could also be the site of a VOR (short for VHF Omni-directional Radio Range, which is a type of radio navigation system for aircrafts.) Aircraft landing, taking off at Beirut airport, or en route over Lebanon are directed by this beacon and another one in Baysur, Lebanon (which was later repalced by a facility at Beirut airport).
