Kathmandu Durbar Square, full of temples, palaces, ponds, quadrangles and courtyards is built on an area covering 5 acres. Kathmandu Durbar Square also known as Hanuman Dhoka is so called because of a large statue of Hanuman, the Monkey God and devotee of Lord Ram located right in front of the Royal Palace.
Several buildings in the Square collapsed in the 25 April 2015 Nepal earthquake.
