Camp Edwards was named after Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant First Class Junior D. Edwards. More than 130 American servicemen were awarded the Nation's highest honor for actions during the Korean War. Many of those honored names have been bestowed on camps and facilities throughout the Republic of Korea.

Camp Edwards' primary mission was support for the 2nd Infantry Division in the Western Corridor. Camp Edwards was located near Camp Howze (Which was south along MSR1), and the closest urban center was Kumchon, located a mile from the facility with a population of 30,000. Camp Edwards was 14 miles from Seoul. Its climate features included, on average, summers between 80 and 90 oF, winters between -5 and 30 oF, and 40-48" of rain during a rainy season between July and August.

Numerous units were stationed at this location over its existence to include the FAST 3 from 2ID (consisting of C Co. 702nd Main Support Battalion for one), the 296th Forward Support Battalion (2ID) from 1989 to 1992, and the 82nd Engineer Company (2ID) from 1992 to 2004 when the post was closed and returned to the Republic of Korea.

  • Wow. Glad to find Cp Ed online, because its long gone. I wasn't there when these old timers were. Thank you, sincere and true for your service. But I was there in 2000. 4years before it was purchased, and dismantled. Years later when I was working at DCAA/Ft Belvoir I saw my old Cpt at the AAFES gas pump. And he'd informed me of the closure. I even left tape recordings there for future soldiers. Wonder what happen to those tapes? This is SGT Parker, before ROK I was a 92nd Eng from 97-99
