Exploration of The Golden Wonder Mine by its current owner, LKA Gold Incorporated, began in the early 1980's and was shut down in 1987 due to low gold prices. Exploration was resumed in 1997 and commercial production was achieved from 1998-2006 which yielded 133,000 ounces of gold at an average ore grade of 16 ounces of gold per ton. This bonanza grade ore was produced from a single ore shoot measuring less than 10,000 square feet. Exploration to discover additional high-grade ore shoots and to replenish the mine's reserves began in 2007 by LKA.

In 2015 Kinross Gold, USA signed an exploration and option agreement with LKA. Kinross has since identified certain surface anomalies with characteristics similar to the original high-grade ore shoot and plans to commence a drilling program in late 2016. Both LKA and Kinross believe that additional ore shoots may exist on LKA claims. - Kye Abraham, President of LKA Gold Incorporated.
