The ancient city of Kition ( Kitium ) located in the northern part of Larnaca . According to legend, it was founded by Noah's grandson Kittim . However, the results of archaeological excavations in the city was founded in the XIII . BC. e . Appeared on the Greek island of Mycenaeans fortified city walls and built a temple . Phoenicians , who had seized the city in IX . BC. e . turned this temple in the sanctuary of the goddess Astarte .
