Site Of L Street Brownies Annual New Years Day Swim. Also home to the L Street Running Club. You can still see where they split the beach up into Men's, Women's, and Boys from the early days.

In 1905, the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company, one of the first motion picture companies in the U.S., filmed the L Street Brownies playing handball, ice skating, and swimming in the frigid waters of Boston Harbor. You can watch this movie on the Boston Public Library's Web site at www.bpl.org/central/bostonmovies.htm, along with three other early motion pictures of the city. The man at the end of the film with the walrus moustache has been identified as Michael T. "Nuf Ced" McGreevy. He founded and led the Royal Rooters, who were the Red Sox fan club in the early 20th century and who counted as a member John F. Fitzgerald, mayor of Boston and grandfather of John F. Kennedy.
