The Marble Palace in Kolkata is an exquisitely engineered palatial mansion that was built by Raja Rajendra Mullick Bahadur, who was one of the wealthiest landlords of Bengal in the year 1835. It's sheer magnificence and scintillating artistry will surely captivate you in a state of trance.

This architectural masterpiece is made from the extensive use of Italian marble. The lush green lawn in front of it is clad with statues of Hindu Gods, The Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ, the great explorer Christopher Columbus, Lord Buddha and some lions.

The house is basically Neoclassical in style, while the plan with its open courtyards is largely traditional Bengali.

• Located on 46, Mukta Rambabu Street, Chorbagan.
• It is open to visitors on 4 days a week namely on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm although it is best to drop in between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm.
• Admission is free to the Marble Palace in Kolkata .
• Photography is sternly restricted.

The Marble Palace in Kolkata was named so by Lord Minto as 126 different types of marbles, accumulated from different corners of the country were employed to give shape to this one of a kind architectural delight.

    Govt and authorities should let loose restrictions on photography of History of Bengal, Bengali Aristocracy and 16 Ana Bangaliana. These things will not remain as they are now after hundreds of years from now. Only the thing that would remain forever is photography of these places in Digital format saved in CDs, DVDs and Blue Ray Disks.
