 square, parade ground

Midan Al-Sabeen or Al-Sabeen Square is the main square of national celebrations in the capital Sanaa. It was named after the siege of seventy-days (28 November 1967 to 7 February 1968) by the Royal Forces against the Republican Armed Forces inside the Capital City of Sanaa. The siege lasted seventy days, and witnessed battles inside the capital and the nearby areas. The Republicans received economic and military support from China, Egypt and Syria also received diplomatic support from Algeria. Despite the superiority of the royalists in the quantity and quality, the siege ended and saw the victory of the Republicans. It was the most prominent result as it brought Saudi Arabia (the main supporter of the Monarchy Regime in Yemen) to recognized the Republican Government in Yemen in 1970.
