Japan Steel Works' first steel plant was built here in 1907. The Muroran Plant has played a valuable part in the development of Japan’s heavy industrial sector. Boasting the latest equipment, including a 14,000-ton hydraulic press, electric arc furnace and a 100-ton electro-slag remelting furnace, the plant manufactures a wide range of products, from cast and forged steel products to steel sheet and pipes, towers, industrial machinery, and environmental preservation systems and equipment.
