Rockport, MA - Initially an unpopulated area of Gloucester, the area was used as a source for timber for ship building. The first settlers to the area was in 1623.

Due to the plentiful fishing around Cape Ann, a dock was constructed in Sandy Bay for use by fishing and merchant vessels.

In the early 19th century the region was also used to supply granite up and down the East Coast. Today there are several privately owned former quarries in town.

In 1840, looking to form their own community, the town formally seperated from Gloucester and became the town of Rockport.
Today the town is a picturesque tourist destination and small fishing community. In the past the area was use for logging and to quarry granite.
