Created on April 21, 2004 this park was established to preserve, reproduce and rational use of typical and unique forest and natural landscape, historic and cultural complexes in the top of river Uday.
Total park area is 9666 ha, including 4686 ha for permanent use, and 4980 ha without removal of land (Dendrological garden of national significance "Trostyanets" (205 ha) and the state forestry company Prylutska (4775 ha).
The park is in Prylutsk-Lohvitsa geobotanic area of Romensk-Poltava geobotanic district of prairie grasslands, oak, oak-Hrabovo (the west) and oak-pine (on the terraces of rivers) forests and wetlands euthrophous Left-Dniper subprovince of East European province Euro-Siberian forest-steppe zone of forest-steppe region.
