golf course, golf club
Set out in 150 acres of wooded parkland previously owned by Lord Desborough, Maidenhead Golf Club first opened for play on 12th December 1896. The course architect was Alex Simpson, a Scot from Forfar, whose design was enhanced in 1908 when the legendary J.H.Taylor, five times winner of The Open Championship, was commissioned to introduce improvements. These included constructing 17 new bunkers and lengthening the course by 700 yards.
