1897 — Union Sugar Company founded, built town of Betteravia for workers.
1899 — Operations began.
1907 — American Sugar Refining Company bought half interest.

1928-1933 — Closed. Local beets sold to American Beet Sugar Co. in Oxnard.
1934 — Opened and increased production by buying beets from nearby areas.
1951 — Bought by Consolidated Grocers Corp., which in 1954 became Consolidated Foods Corp. , and later Sara Lee Corp.
1986 — Bought by Holly Sugar, renamed in 1988 to Imperial Holly Sugar; and dust explosion damaged plant and 8 workers.
1993 — Closed
1997 — Partially demoslished
