Church Hill was once connected to Alnmouth, and the river Aln ran around the side. In December 1806, a great storm destroyed the connection and caused the hill to be separated from Alnmouth itself. The river Aln now runs through where this connection once was. The hill once had a church which the name suggests and a cemetery.
