Landship is a mock cargo vessel hull and cargo hold which provides trainees with experience working three different forms of crane apparatus; Winch, block and tackle, Stayed H-frame rig and Hagglund Cranes.

While the winch, block and tackle method is growing increasingly outdated as a shipboard cargo handling method, many breakbulk cargo vessels in the US Ready Reserve Fleet still utilize the technology as do many remote port areas. The winch, block and tackle system also provide trainees with basic understanding of crane operation principals before they utilze more advance methods.

The Stayed H-Frame is utilized in a slightly altered form on modern US Navy and US Military Sealift Command vessels to transfer stores from ship to ship while underway, and is also present on Ready Reserve Force cargo vessels. The Hagglund Crane system is widely utilzed on modern geared container, breakbulk and bulk cargo vessels as well as all of the Ready Reserve Force Crane Ships.

  • Fake boat with winches, really outdated even for 1989 when I was there. Nobody was using winches anymore.
