If the Army had a ghetto, its Hannam.

It wasn't that way in the 80s, new generation of military maybe

Hannam Village wasn't a ghetto throughout 2003 or 2004. On the other hand, the U.S. Army most certainly did treat all residents like second-class citizens, always getting the short end of the stick, massive dollars spent at Yongan while near-zero dollars were spent at Hannam Village. I greatly enjoyed the people with whom I worked while stationed at Yongsan. I despise, however, the arrogant, elitist attitudes of those who controlled the purse strings, always sucking up dollars earmarked for Hannam Village to pay for pet programs on Yongsan. Their behavior was reprehensible. The fact that most of them were O-5s and above is unconscionable.

I was there in 1972. It was Niblo Barracks then. Great duty. Walk out the back gate and up the hill to Itaewon.
