Torbay Hospital in southern Devon is run by an NHS Foundation Trust. It is one of the 5 national centres designated by the Department of Health as an “NHS flagship”. The Endoscopy Unit is one of 7 major national training centres and is a first wave site for bowel cancer screening. Torbay Hospital is also the regional centre for Photodynamic Therapy, treating Age-related Macular Degeneration. The Trust provides a fully integrated midwifery service across South Devon, and the area is recognised nationally for its exceptionally high home birth rate.
