Formerly Lycée Franco-Arabe, or Lycée Laïque, built by the French Secular Mission (Mission laïque française) . It was built by the French mandate authorities in the beginning of the 1929, to be opened in 1932. It was then located at the edge of the Al-Ghouta (Farmlands encircling Damascus). It was nationalised in the 1960s and its name was changed to Lycée Houurieh (School of Liberty). Its name was changed after the death of the sun's president Bassel Aassad in 1994, to Lycée Bassel Assad, to regain its name Lycée Houurieh in 2020.
It consists of a kindergarten, primary (1-6th class), intermediary (6-9th class) and secondary (10-12th class) school for girls and boys.
