Doctor Octavio Moura Andrade City Park (São Pedro)

Brazil / Sao Paulo / Sao Pedro / São Pedro / Avenida Carlos Mauro

The main public park in Águas de São Pedro, São Paulo, Brazil, is named after the creator of the city of Águas de São Pedro.

Dr. Octavio Moura Andrade was a lawyer who visited the São Pedro region in 1934 and due to his effort and commitment he created a Thermal Bath City to explore the Sulfurous Water and two other natural fountains (Almeida Salles and Gioconda).

A man ahead of his time, Dr. Octavio was more than an Lawyer and business man, he was an ecologist on way before the term was even created. As an example in Águas de São Pedro he created a city with more than 60% reserved for parks and green areas, under his command were planted over 1.200.000 trees on the area that is today know as Águas de São Pedro, by the time the city was created in 1936 all the public illumination and wires were buried underground because he believed no tree should be trimmed.
In the same park today is located the Grande Hotel São Pedro, today the university for tourism, environmental studies and hotel management.
