This area contains the waste from the Sillamäe
uranium works (housed in the large buildings
southwards) that produced the material to the
Soviet Unions first nuclear bombs. Sweden has
contributed with knowledge and money to build
a dam which prevents leakage of radioactivity
into the Gulf of Finland.

  • The picure of "nice blue lake" is taken in 1996. In this time was situation there critical, because the protective dam was pretty weak contition. In current time the situation there much safer.
