The cut line running west-east is the location of the border between Estonia and Soviet Russia according to the Peace Treaty of Tartu (Dorpat) from 2 february 1920. After incorporation of Estonia into the USSR, the border between Estonian SSR and Russian Soviet Federative Socialistic Republic (RSFSR) was moved to Narva River in 1944.
