Portland Cement Quarry, started approx 1880's and closed in 1927 after the general strike. Now flooded its very deep with vertical drops under water. Remains of railway and wagons was exposed in 1976 when it was pumped out to help with the canal. Many lives were lost over the years with people venturing into the water. Remains of WWII bofors gun emplacement on spoil heap. Its home to native white clawed crayfish and large fish can be seen basking on the surface on hot days.
