Capelton Mine was one of 3 underground copper mines in the area. It's sloping shaft (about 45 degrees) is about 3,600 ft.or 1,200 m. deep, with almost all of it flooded now. It was in operation from 1863 up until it's closure in 1907. The upper parts of the mine opened for tours in 1995.
