Hangang Grand Bridge (Seoul)

Korea (South) / Soul / Seoul

The Hangang Bridge spans the Han River connecting the Yongsan-gu and Dongjak-gu districts. The bridge goes over the uninhabited artificial island of Nodeulseom (노들섬 Nodeul Island) but provides no access to the island.

The Hangang Bridge, completed in October of 1917, was the first bridge to be built over the Han River.

In July of 1925 the bridge was damaged by a flood so in October of 1935 a 2nd bridge was constructed incorporating many improvements over the original bridge.

During the Korean War the bridge was heavily damaged but it wasn't until 1954 that the bridge was completely rebuilt.

In 1981 additional lanes were added and the bridge was renamed the Hangang Bridge.
