The Skip Palrang Memorial Field House, named in honor of the famous coach, teacher and mentor who led some of the most dominant high school sporting teams in history, is one of the most prominent campus buildings. The building reflects Father Flanagan's commitment to the importance of play in a child's life. It was completed in 1948, has a main arena with seating capacity for 8,500, an Olympic-size swimming pool, four basketball courts an eighth-mile, four-lane indoor running track, a practice gym and a weight room. At the time it was built, it was one of the largest buildings of its type in the Midwest. Today, the facility provides athletic training and education opportunities, but also serves as a recreational facility for the more than 500 children who reside here.
