  • The Chowdhurys had cecome rich (or the Zamindar of Bhandarhati in mid-40s), being actually sponsored by the then Zamindar of Dasghora (Hooghly), and by virtue of their business activities as Stevedores at Calcutta river-Port in 40s. They still have their palacial house, located in the mid-western part of Bhandarhati. From this family there was a Chowdhury who had been an MLC during the regime(26th April 1957 to 1st July 1962) of Dr.B.C.Ray. Well, now the Chowdhury family is no more that wealthy...in terms of cash-flows or otherwise. Their place is now taken by a local man named Biddyut Saha... However, in this page... I found no references to Bhandarhati hospital (sub-Health Centre, once headed by Late Dr.Kanailal Mukherjee), which's, of course now, out of order, 0r to noted Eastern Railways' football player (goal-keeper) Praudyut Burman (whose house is now sold to Bidyut Saha, by the way).
  • The chowdhury bari has not been taken by any local man called bidyut saha.It still belongs to the chowdhurys' as much as it did back in the 40's. It happens to be their pride.

  • Fully aggree with Amit and Siddhartha..You can`t compare Biddyut Saha with Chowdhurys..there have not only money but huge cultural difference exist between them..and Chowdhury Bari is a proud asset of our village as well..i even can`t think Bhanderhati without this palace as i grew next to this house.. so many sweet memories .
