  • How much I loved this club in 1967. I was only 6 years old. My father was one of the German engineers working with the steel plant. I cherish my most wonderful childhood memories in this club, my first primary school days in the school right beside the club, my home bungalow was Sector 3 B 4, the corner bungalow. My family went to Hamipur frequently and we visited the Brahmani River on the weekends for picknic. Today I live in Pune, married to an Indian and have a son of the age I was in the good old Rourkela days. I'm planning to come to Rourkela back one day, since it is haunting me in a positive way. Here I fell in love with India and are very happy to live here already for 10 years already. I enjoyed not the wafers, but the finger chips (french fries) and the biscuits wrapped in butter paper. We had festivals, clowns and frequent visits of a jeep with gigantic ice cubes. The cubes were thrown into the swimming pool to cool it. We were sliding on the cubes like the seals and had tremendous fun. At this time there were only Germans in this club and Indians, who were associated with the steel plant. My family mixed a lot with the Indians and we still enjoy friendships from these days, 43 years back. WOW - how time flies.
  • Hello my name is Doris Lehnigk, and I just read your little note about the pool in the German club in Rourkela India Just like your Dad my father was also an engineer there for a good few years in the 60 s My Mum and 4 of my siblings went to live there from 1963 to 1965and my 2 year older sister Beate is even born there ! My fathers name is Hans Joachim Lehnigk!!! I really hope you will see and read this message and hopefully we can share some very precious photos and film footage from my father from back in the Days!!!!!! I live now in Ireland with my husband and 2 children and my last name now is Ryan. In 2003 I flew with my husband to India and we visited this Area... trying to find some clues or anything that could show me of my Families present there We also went to the famos German club and the pool of course!!!!... which I only knew from the film footage my dad took back then. Unfortunately my dad passed away in 1997 and ever since I am hunting for anything that could show me of the fantastic work he did on all his travels and work assignments for the BBC Mannheim!!! I only spend very little time with my dad , he worked and traveled so much for the company to support his huge family ( we are 5 boys and 3 girls in the family, but only 3 boys and 2 girls lived in Rourkela) Anyway Please send me an e mail if you read this message and perhaps you have some new fotos for me to see or any little thing of this special time in India Sincerely Doris Ryan/Lehnigk todoris@hotmail .com
