Playa Sucia

Puerto Rico / Mayaguez-Aguadilla / Cabo Rojo /

Playa Sucia is one of the best beaches in the southwest of PR. It is a little hard to get there, the road isn't paved and there a lots of potholes. It is part of a nature reserve and the closest hotel is Bahia Salina Hotel.
Playa Sucia means "Dirty Beach" and as far as I know it is named for the kelp that floats into the beach during periods of the year.

  • "Playa Sucia" is the wrong name for this beach. The correct name is "La Playuela" (meaning 'small beach'). "Bahía Sucia" is nearby and that is why people wrongly call "La Playuela" Playa Sucia...in other words: Playa Sucia does not exist.
  • IS THE BEST BEACH EVER WEST TO FLAMINGO BEACH IN CULEBRA, THE RESENBLANCE IS SO UNIQUE, FINE SANDY WHITE BEACH, CLEAR BOTTOM AND FREE OF HUMAN REMAINS AS A BOTTLE CANS, ETC.. IT IS A MUST GO BEACH.
  • We been to P.R. many times but our last visit was one of the best! Bahia Sucia is one of P.R. best kept secrets on the main land. I highly recommend taking a trip there. And yes bring a cooler w/food and drinks.
  • Just visited this year. August 2015. It's still beautiful but tons upon tons of seaweed have invaded the sands of the beach. It's not the same as it was years ago but it's still worth a visit if you're not too picky about it. The cliffs and the lighthouse are definitely a must see. We drove 3.5 hours to see it and at first it was disappointing but the locals do not fear the seaweed. There were spots without seaweed to swim in. And then hiking the cliffs was absolutely breathtaking. The roads are somewhat paved and smooth now with designated parking spots.
