Yelnya (Russian: Ельня) is a town in Smolensk Oblast, Russia, situated on the Desna River 82 km from Smolensk. It is the administrative center of Yelninsky District. According to the 2002 Census, the population of the town was 10,798 people; up from 9,868 recorded in the 1989 Census).
