St Paul's Anglican Church (Valparaíso)

Chile / Valparaiso / Valparaíso
 church, anglicanism

St Paul's was built in 1858 to serve the British Community in Valparaiso. It has neither tower nor cross, as, at the time it was built, only Roman Catholic churches were permitted to have Christian symbols showing that a building was a church. This rule had been changed by the time the nearby German Church was built. St Paul's was declared a national monument in 1979. It is currently undergoing restoration. No regular church services are held at St Paul's, but services in English take place every Sunday at its sister church, St Peter's in Viña del Mar.
