  • Read in this prestigious school from 1942-1944 in class III-IV. The name of head master was probably Mr. Bholanath Sarnakar, a bald person with enormous personality. I guess the name of class teachers Mr. Hemchandra, Mr. Bhayggodhar Golui. Cherish the memory of my friend Ashit Ch Datta, son on Nara Bene, Samaresh and Ramzan. Don't know where and how they are now. Slipped inside the school pond a few times and was punished by the teacher as willful act. During shower, the boys used to get cloths wet to get classes off for the day. Some boys in class took 'opium' available in the shop, some others took snuff. After school hours, boys walked home in pairs balancing over the rail lines of Martin company that introduced miniature train. At station boys waited to watch the forceful release of white steam from the engine. Many entered the hot steam to get wet. Morning school hours were far more enjoyable. Had to move early morning carrying books and can of 'ghee fried muri and sugar' as tiffin which was then popular. Before summer holiday, the class entertained the teachers with refreshment. The boys planned it meticulously and chose items to make it more impressive than others, it was a great happy occasion. Also Remember the great famine and gruel kitchen in Amta, moving of British troops over the earthen bundh west of town and the detonation of an unexploded bomb fallen from a plane by a group of army. Then the spectacle of 'charak mela'. What a wonderful and golden days they were... Engr. Ershad Ahmed, Dhaka, 18 Nov 2012
