Al Flynn Pond (Coon Rapids, Minnesota)

USA / Minnesota / Coon Rapids / Coon Rapids, Minnesota
 lake, pond

The clay hole pond and chimney are reminders of a once successful brick making venture. When clay deposits were discovered, Dr. D.C. Dunham organized the first brickyard in 1881, the Anoka Pressed Brick and Terra Cotta Company. It was located at the site of the present clay hole at Coon Rapids Boulevard and Avocet Street. The digging of clay was terminated after a spring was hit at about 90 feet.

For many years after that it served as a local swimming hole. The city closed down usage of the site when the pond was unable to pass the reflector test that is required of all swimming sites.
