Named "Panchali" by the first settlers around 60-70 years ago. Panchali was one of the several names of Queen Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas. During their Guptavas, the Pandavas took refuge in King Birat's palace (the City of Biratnagar is named after King Birat, the historical character from the Mahabharata), which is believed to be in or near the current Panchali tol.
