A £60 million project, which has already cost the FA (Football Association) £20 million to acquire the land in Staffordshire, installing floodlights and laying down eight pitches.

The centre of excellence was meant to ensure the long-term health of the England team.

It was conceived by former FA technical director Howard Wilkinson and modelled on the French academy at Clairefontaine.
