For the distant period, at the time of the military dictatorship, the district of Muritiba accommodated American "missionaries", within the framework of the Convenção Batista Baiana. Regrettably, for more than 30 years the farmers of the "baixão", the pupils of the High school Taylor-Egidio, as well as the regular customers of the local Baptist church saw imposing a missionary called Jerry Smith, character of a remarkable ignorance and a terrible contempt in verse the local population.
Devoid of any culture, during all these years this Cowboy was never interested in the culture of the city, the region or the country. His activity limited itself to the Synday moralist sermons, to the despicable agricultural projects, dedicated to the bankruptcy, without interest for the population and without possible interface. This said missionary, whose only virtue is to bring to light the passive obedience and the tolerance of "jaguaquarenses", left the Brazil without knowing anything nothing on nothing. He understood nothing of the cultural evolution which existed in his own country (USA) between the decades of 50, 60, 70 and 80.
