Wood River oil refinery; the refinery was built and originally owned by Shell Oil and has also been owned by Premcor. The Refinery processes 311,000 barrels of oil per day (being expanded to 356,000 barrels per day) to produce gasoline, jet fuel, diesel, asphalt, propane and other products, and supplies part of the St. Louis region, Chicago, Indiana and Ohio. Approximately 2/3 of the refinery's capacity is used to treat heavy oil, including synthetic crude oil from the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta.

In 2007, ConocoPhillips and Canadian oil producer Cenovus Energy created a joint venture project involving two of the former company's refineries - Wood River and Borger, Texas - and the latter's oil sands projects in Alberta.
