The Establishment of the Community College
The establishment of the Community College in 2005 came as an embodiment of the vision of his highness the supreme president of the university and the board of trustees that aimed at institutionalizing and developing local community service and building on the experiences and lessons learned from the Career Development Program which was set up in July 2001 to meet the needs of job seekers, develop their abilities and experiences, and equip them with the practical and applied skills that would enhance their abilities to occupy positions in the public and private sectors. The establishment of the Community College is a pioneering and qualitative step by which the University of Sharjah opens new horizons in responding to the genuine needs of the local communities served by the newly-established college.

The Vision
The College aspires to assume a leading role (at the local and national levels) in supplying the labour market with work forces that have been trained and given intermediate university qualification .The College’s programs focus on the applied and technical aspects so as to be compatible with the needs of the labour market and its current and future requirements.

The Mission
The Mission of the community college is to respond to labour market needs in the United Arab Emirates and to supply work forces that have been trained and given intermediate university qualification that focus on the applied and technical aspects so as to be compatible with the needs of the labour market and its current and future requirements.

Objectives
Supplying students with different types of knowledge, and having them acquire the necessary applied skills that would enable them to use the most up-to-date technologies, which should contribute to fulfilling the goals of the economic and social development and the needs of the local community and labour market in the State in general.
Providing the necessary human resources at the intermediate university level for different administrative and technical jobs and professions.
Providing continuing education, re-training, and offering a variety of educational programs and short-and long-term courses for the local community.
Preparing learners, and supplying them with technical qualification that places emphasis on the applied and theoretical aspects, which should promote the competition among the graduates for obtaining suitable work opportunities.
Contributing to the accommodation of the local competent cadres in the supporting administrative and technical jobs which are expected to be on demand in the coming years in the private sector.
Opening and enhancing channels for partnership and cooperation between the College and the private sector, which would add to the compatibility between the quality of the College’s outputs and the actual and practical requirements of the available jobs.
Scope of Work and areas of Specialization
The Community College provides its services through five branches located in different geographic areas in the Emirate of Sharjah. The total number of students in these branches amounts to 1120 students.

These branches are:
The main offices of the Community College in Khorfakkan.
Community College branch in Sharjah city.
Community College branch in Kalba.
Community College branch in Dibba al-hisn.
Community College branch in Al Meleiha.

The college grants an intermediate two-year diploma in the following specializations:
Business Administration.
Accounting.
Secretariat and Office Management.
Information Technology.
Library and Information Systems.

The college also grants a one-year diploma in administrative sciences for university graduates aiming at providing students with hands-on experience so as to improve their employment opportunities in the labour market.

Teaching and Administrative Staff
The overall number of teaching staff in the community college is (60) full-time instructors and a number of part-time lecturers. There are (60) administrative employees in the college whose function is to render services to students and instructors in the various branches and units.

Local Community Service
The college attaches great importance to its role and responsibility in serving the local community and responding to its needs. To carry out this role it is imperative for the college to involve itself in activities related to continuous education, consultations, training and research. These activities are expected to take top priority in the community college annual plans and program agenda. The immense and continual support enjoyed by the Community College from his highness the supreme president of sharjah university will undoubtedly constitute a source of inspiration and motivation for both teaching and administrative staff of the College.
