Senatobia (pop. 6,682) is a small city in northwest Mississippi located 36 miles south of downtown Memphis, Tennessee. Senatobia is the largest city and county seat of Tate County. Through most of its history, the city's economy has been mostly self-sufficient, supported by light industry and the county's agriculture and ranching. However, in recent decades, Senatobia has become home to more people who commute into Memphis or DeSoto County for work. In light of the city's increasingly exurban status, the U.S. Census Bureau officially added Senatobia and Tate County to the Memphis Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in 2003.
