Pompéu is a municipality in the north of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. As of 2007 the population was 28,393 in a total area of 2,557 km². It became a municipality in 1938.

The Pompéu's economy is based in dairy and beef livestock (one of most important dairy area), furniture industry, green slate mining and transformation and also an ethanol plant.

The celebration calendar is an exiting attraction, as a small town the local population is receptive, Pompéu is always a place to meet friends and enjoy a bucolic place. The annual country fair(Expompéu)in the early July has outstanding shows of country performers. We has also rodeo's in the fair. Another attraction is the carnival, the popular feast is placed on the streets with city hall support. The most important tourism attraction is fishing, the city is surrounded by tree rivers ans two hydroelectric dams.
