"Sagtikos Manor"/"Appletree Neck Wicke"

USA / New York / West Bay Shore /
residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, historical building

The "Sagtikos Manor" was built in 1697, expanded in 1772 and 1902. The estate served as headquarters for the British Army on Long Island for a brief time during the Revolutionary War. President George Washington stayed there during his tour of Long Island in 1790. Under the ownership of Frederick Diodati Thompson, alterations were made in 1905 by Isaac H. Green.

Robert David Lion Gardiner owned the property from 1935 to 1985 when he deeded it to the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation. He comissioned alterations during that period by Isaac Henry Green, II.

In 2002, Suffolk County purchased the property from the Foundation to keep it from being sold to a developer. The Sagtikos Manor Historical Society resumed giving tours of the house in the summer of 2003.
