New Xade (Kg'oesakeni)

Botswana / Ngwaketse / Tshwaane /

New Xade (Kg'oesakeni) is a San settlement consisting primarily of the Dcui and Dxana Bushman tribes as well as Bakgalagadi (a pastoralist Bantu/Tswana tribe who have long cohabited with the Central Kalahari San) who have been relocated from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The village is divided into wards, many of which correspond to their previous villages in the CKGR such as Molapo and Metsiamanong, though many relocated from Old Xade, now a wildlife camp. Kg'oesakeni is the name given to the village by the Bushmen leaders, which means "Looking for [Good] Life" in the local dialects. The village is about 110km from Ghanzi to the west and 50km from the CKGR boundary (70km from Old Xade). The 2001 census gave New Xade a population of 1049, though the current population is likely much greater, with seasonal fluctuation.
