Two 8" disappearing carriage guns were mounted here from 1899 to 1918.

Battery Forse was named on May 15, 1903 in honor of Major Albert G. Forse, 1st U.S. Cavalry, who was killed July 1, 1898, at the battle of San Juan, Cuba.
