This is the outfall point and the Point Wells Portal for Brightwater, a new sewage treatment system being built by the King County Wastewater Treatment Division. When completed in 2011, treated wastewater will be discharged from this point into Puget Sound through an outfall pipe. The outfall has two components, a long solid pipe that begins at the shoreline and extends deep into the water, and a perforated section at the end, called a diffuser, where the treated wastewater is released at a depth of 600 ft. The outfall was installed this year and extends offshore for approximately 5,200 feet. The portal site serves as a staging area for conveyance tunnel construction.
