Pulau Pombo is a virgin island that still has a quirk of their flora and fauna and their ecosystems which should be protected and develop, also preserving the conservation of the natural resources.

Declared as protected area thru Minister of Agriculture Letter Number: 327/Kpts/Um/7/1973 July 25, 1973, in an area of 1,000 ha, includes land, coral reef and the lagoon. Pulau Pombo is currently used as the importance of research and development of science, education and other activities that support the cultivation (Law No. 5 / 1990, Article 17.1).

Geographically it is located between the island of Ambon and Haruku, with coordinates of 128°22'09" E and 3°31'35" S. Administratively, this area belong to Salahhutu District, Central Maluku Regency. In general, the topography is a flat with an average altitude of 0 to 4 m above sea level. The sea water clarity allows transparent sight to the seabed, and showed it's beautiful marine park. During the tide, the very beautiful corals appear on the surface.

Pombo Island Marine Park has a beautiful sea view in the form of rocks naturally and neatly arranged, while the reef is the habitat of ornamental fish, zoo-plankton and shellfish species. In addition to the marine park, Pulau Pombo is also a nesting place of Maluku endemic bird species 'Pombo' (Ducula bicolor) and other bird species.


How to reach Pulau Pombo?:

To achieve Pombo Island Marine Park, going from Ambon to Tulehu or Waai or Liang by road for about a half hours to one hour. Then proceed through the sea, from the Tulehu or Waai to Pombo island (for 15 - 30 minutes) using a speed-boat.
