The first mention of the area of the modern region is connected with the Borshchagovka River, the name of which comes from the ancient Ukrainian word "borshchivka" (ie, "acid"), which was called the local plant. The name of the plant gave the name of the river, which in turn formed the well-known names of the settlements Borshchagivok.
The name of Svyatoshyn has its origins since the times of Kievan Rus of the XII century and is associated with the name of Chernigov prince Svyatoslav Davidovich, because these lands were his fiefdom and got him an inheritance. On the slope of the years he went into a monk named Nicholas, but in the people he was called Svyatosha. From here, obviously, the name of Svyatoshinsky lands, places of the Most Holy. So this is what is written in the Chronicle of Rus.
The documents on the tract Bilic were first mentioned in 1161. About Berkovets' farmstead near Kiev is mentioned from the middle of the XVII century as the property of the Dominican monastery.
Before the revolution, these were the country-houses of the rich industrialists and merchants of Kiev. In 1918, during the reign of Hetman P. P. Skoropadsky, the first administrative-territorial division of Kyiv was held in 17 districts, including Svyatoshinsky, the village of Svyatoshyn included in the boundary of the city in 1919.
In early January 1924, the territory of Kiev was divided into 6 enlarged administrative-territorial districts, including the Svyatoshinsky sub-district, which was part of the Rakhiv-Svyatoshinsky.
On April 12, 1973, in accordance with the Presidium of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR, a new administrative-territorial district, Leningradsky, was formed in Kyiv, the boundary of which partially covered the territory of the October, Soviet and Shevchenkivskyi districts. Since April 27, 2001 the district received the modern name.
