M8 Townhead Interchange (Glasgow)

This ludicrously complex junction is notable for having the closest exits anywhere on the British motorway network - Junctions 14-15 are literally yards apart, exiting on both sides of the carriageway.

Apart from the Tradeston Ski Ramp, this is the biggest surviving clue to the unbuilt section of the Glasgow Inner Ring Road. This route would have taken a motorway south over the river, narrowly avoiding Glasgow Cathedral, wiping out a huge tranche of what is now known as the Merchant City, in a similar manner to what happened to Charing Cross and Anderston.

Evidence of the unfinished road can be seen all over the Townhead Interchange, with awkward turns, roads abruptly ending and unused lanes.
