The twin church was built as a memorial of victory in the siege by Stephen Bathory. In front of the church there are two stone crosses, one bearing an inscription Перед "On 29.8.1581, the Holiest Mother of Our Lord appeared here before Dorothey, a blacksmith". In the "Pogankiny Palaty" museum there is an icon devoted to this vision; the icon also shows the siege by Stephen Bathory - the Holy Virgin promised Her protection to Pskov, and the battle was won even though the city walls were broken, right next to this place.
